Psychotherapy, a way of healing one’s life, from the Greek words Psukhe, meaning life or Spirit, and Therapeia meaning to heal.

It’s likely that you have found your way to me because someone has told you about my work. Almost all of my clients find me because someone else – a friend, an acquaintance, perhaps a guidance counsellor at one of the local high schools – has referred them to me.

It makes sense. Seeing someone for help is a big step. It also takes a lot of courage. So if you’re going to take the leap to see someone, you want to see someone that you’ve heard is really good and can truly help.

I know a referral is the highest honour a therapist can receive from a client, especially given the stigma that still persists around mental health. To me, a referral from a previous client is a profound act of trust. It takes tremendous courage for a client to own that they sought help and then to say to someone else, ‘hey, I saw this psychotherapist and she really helped me. I think she could help you.’

I’m equally as honoured that so many local doctors, high school teachers and counsellors, who have either heard me speak at events or who have seen the results of my work, feel confident in passing on my name.

So what is psychotherapy, and why are so many people finding it so powerful? Why is it so different from everything else out there?

Where counselling and psychology are supportive, psychotherapy is explorative. It isn’t just about finding solutions but also about exploring past and present behaviour for patterns.

It asks questions. Life changing questions.

You know that moment when you are looking in the mirror wondering how and why you got to a place where you need help? It feels like life has you cornered. You’re backed against the wall, and you need clarity, meaning and direction – the chance to understand, to heal. To breathe deeply again.

That’s what I can help you find. Clarity, meaning and direction.

Together we will work to understand how you came to be in a state of depression, grief, anxiety or despair. We’ll work out how to best get through this event, and if we need to, how to understand what patterns in your life are causing you to repeat these same situations in different environments by shifting these ingrained behaviours.

Together, our goal is to create your best future.
